Waterproofing inspection in Strathtulloh

We inspect the wet area membranes after they have cured and before the tiler starts, because a fault in a membrane is invisible and permanent once tiles are bedded over it.

  • Membrane cured, tiler not yet on site
  • About 1 hour on site
  • Report within 24 hours

Why it matters here

Waterproofing inspections on Strathtulloh builds

The membrane details we see fail most often are small: a bath junction lapped 20mm instead of 40mm, a bond breaker too thin at a hob, a membrane that stops short of the floor waste flange. Each lets water track under the tiles where it can sit for years.

What we find at this stage in Strathtulloh

  • Bath and wall junctions lapped less than 40mm
  • Bond breakers too thin at the shower hob
  • Membrane not taken into the waste flange
  • Membrane damaged by other trades
  • Wastes blocked with debris
  • Membrane left unprotected before tiling

FAQ

Waterproofing inspections in Strathtulloh: common questions

Which standard governs bathroom and laundry waterproofing?

AS 3740 for waterproofing domestic wet areas, the Housing Provisions and the Guide to Standards and Tolerances 2015.

Can you check waterproofing after tiling?

Only indirectly, through leaks and moisture readings. The membrane itself has to be seen before tiles go down.

Which rooms do you check?

Every shower, bath, laundry and wet area the contract requires to be waterproofed.

What is a bond breaker?

A strip that lets the membrane flex at a junction instead of tearing as the building moves. If it is too thin, the membrane can split at the corner.

Do you flood test?

No. Our membrane check relies on sight and measurement only. Flood testing is a separate procedure the builder can arrange.

How long does it take?

About an hour for a typical home with two bathrooms and a laundry.
