Why it matters here

Bored piers inspections on Strathtulloh builds

Piers carry a slab down through softer or variable ground to firmer material the engineer has nominated. On the western basalt plains that material, and the depth to reach it, changes from lot to lot, so each hole has to be compared with your own engineering rather than a typical figure.

What we find at this stage in Strathtulloh

  • Holes stopping short of the founding depth on the engineering
  • Loose soil or water left in the base of a hole
  • Cages sitting on the bottom instead of held off it
  • Too little concrete cover around the cage
  • Pier positions drifting from the set-out
  • Starter bars missing for the beams above

FAQ

Bored piers inspections in Strathtulloh: common questions

Does every Strathtulloh house need piers?

No. Many slabs on these estates are designed without them. Your engineering drawings show whether piers are required and where.

What do you measure?

Hole depth, diameter and spacing against the engineering, the condition of the base, cage size and position, and cover to the steel.

Can piers be inspected after the pour?

Not in any useful way. Once concrete is in, depth and cage placement cannot be confirmed, which is why this visit has to be on the day.

How far ahead should the pier check be booked?

One or two days' notice generally works. Tell us the drilling date and we hold a slot for the afternoon.

What if a hole is not deep enough?

The report records it with a photo and the engineering requirement, and the builder re-drills or calls the engineer before pouring.

Is the pier check part of the slab inspection?

It can be booked together if piers and slab steel are ready the same day, but usually they are separate visits a few days apart.
