Conducive conditions: what attracts termites on a Strathtulloh acreage
Damp ground, timber against walls and hidden slab edges. The conditions we list on building and pest reports and how to fix them.
In short: A conducive condition is not termites. It is the setting that makes them more likely. Removing it is the cheapest protection there is.
Moisture
Leaking taps, overflowing gutters and poor drainage keep soil damp beside the house, which termites need.
Timber in contact with soil
Garden edging, fence posts, stored firewood and timber steps touching the ground give termites food and cover.
Covered edges
Garden beds and paving built against the walls hide the area where termite leads would be seen.
Subfloor ventilation
In older homes, vents too close to ground level restrict airflow and keep the subfloor damp.
Decay
Rotting timber in windows and sills is a sign of long term moisture and is attractive to pests.
